Family Time for Christmas

After our lovely Christmas dinner we sat in the living room discussing clothes are were they were purchased. Dad decided to share the time where I left the key under a rock with a note on the door for my friend, Annette, in case she showed up while we were gone shopping.
See a pattern here?! haha
All I could think of was Jeff Foxworthy-your a Redneck if.......
By that time my 7 year old niece called and was excited about what she got for Christmas. She got a hermit crab! She named him PX-not sure what that stands for by she does. On it's bad she put a dinosaur tattoo. Poor PX-scarrred for life now with this trauma.
It was so cute for her I had to share.

Merry Christmas Everyone

Last minute Christmas Shopping

I went with Dad today to get Mom her last Christmas gift. We drove into the Outlet Mall. There was a fire truck and a red pickup truck that on the back of both said 'Missouri Redneck'. LOL
There was also Santa and an elf collecting donations along side the vehicles. We drove by the elf and he said 'Merry Christmas'. He was very HAPPY. I think he tried some of Mrs. Claus' eggnog before he came from the North Pole.
Again, only in a small town would this create such excitement.

A Blast from My Past

I work at the local Depot Museum once a month. Today I spent over three hours with my boss going through a couple hundred photos ranging from the 1940-70s. As we were looking through them to separate into categories I came across something interesting.
An old photograph taken after the 1959 tornado revealed a farm where my grandfather had worked. I recognized a truck that had been almost destroyed as one they used. I remembered the truck and farm from photos that Mom and Dad had. I took it back home and Mom even recogized a Cadillac they had owned at the time. The car, however, had withstood the terrors of the cyclone.
I laughed because so many times your family talks about their past and alot of times shows you pictures. But, you never realize how LONG ago it was until it ends up in the local museum. Your families stories always sound intriguing because it was before you were born. Then to see part of your history like that is amazing.

Christmas In Our Town

We have the lights on the light posts and most of the houses are decorated for Christmas. The most amusing thing was our little incident this morning. Santa came down our street, in his jolly red suit, driving a fire truck. HO HO HO could be heard throughout the town as he made his presence know to all.
Apparently, Mom and Dad did not feel I needed to give Santa anymore from my list and let me sleep through it. What a shame because I forgot somethings when I sent him my list for this year. LOL

Every Town Has their Dog

Our town has its own community dog. He goes down all SIX streets to greet each car or individual wandering around. haha
The good thing is that he has yet to be hit by any of the approaching visitors. Any of my friends that have come down here has had the opportunity to get to know him.

Small town musings

When big things happen in our town, such as: the cotton gin burning down, ambulance coming to someone's house, helicopter descending on landing pad at edge of town for pick up etc. there always seems to be a huge crowd to watch the events. But, of course, in our town a huge crowd is not above 500 people. LOL
I have fantasized about selling popcorn at these 'events' but then think 'this is so WRONG!'
Just had to share a bit of my town's events for the year. The only other thing more exciting was when the new water tower was build. Oh happy day that was. haha

Joanna's World

I was brought up in a Christian world. I have a younger brother, John, and we have lived all our lives in a small friendly town. We were brought up to do for ourselves which helped give us strength to become upstanding adults. Since I am the single sibling it allows me to spend alot of time with my nieces. Dad has a dry sense of humor, which because we were used to it, kept us in stitchings when others did not 'get him.' Some of this rubbed off on me to Mom's shagrin. Mom taught me my fashion style and how to be a lady even in tennis shoes, jeans and a t-shirt. I love animals and seem to attract the strays in town whether we want them or not.
In future blogs I will try to let you in a little about life in a small town. Bear with me because I don't often have time to write alot. So, when I do post it may be lengthly to make up for it.
